Drawing inspiration from cultural and social customs as well as science, this recent series of paintings and drawings is called Good Breeding. By examining the world of biogenetics, agricultural production and global commerce, my interests center on the impact of these industries on the health of both human and animal populations.
While critical content drives the work, the materials and process of making the work supersedes the subject matter. The paintings are a pastiche of layered images with multiple and often disparate visual language. In the co-mingling these images, appropriated from medical and agricultural sources, new and multiple readings are created.
I continue to contemplate the possibility of art as a foil or mirror held up to the world of global commerce.
